In 2023, Michael Broad (Next Gen Rugby Coaching) attended the Crusaders International Coaching Academy for 2 weeks as part of his Professional Development.

The course provided all 23 coaches from across the globe an opportunity to obtain an insight as to the strength of the Crusaders organisation through the lens of every aspect associated with the club – from the CEO, Head Coach to the men and women who, behind the scenes, make the place the success story it is.

Right from Day 1 it was clear that Michael brought a unique level of rugby experience to the group having been a Junior Wallaby, Australian Schoolboy coach as well as having coached professionally in Europe. Michael’s insights around the game at all levels provided for great discussions and debate. Michael was never afraid to ask questions to gain as much knowledge and understanding as to coaching strategies; professional programs and the keys to building an organisation where everyone involved feels that they are welcomed and belong within the organisation.

Next Gen Rugby Coaching obviously has a leader who embraces the concept of sharing ideas and building pathways for all age levels (including coaches) across this great game.

It was an absolute pleasure to have Michael as part of our 2023 coaches cohort.

- Grant Keenan
Crusaders Global Academy Manager

I have known Michael Broad since the early 2000s when he was coaching at South RC and was the Director of Sport at Gregory Terrace. Since that time, I have always been impressed with the professionalism and quality of his rugby knowledge and coaching experience & expertise. For these reasons, I engaged Broady to be the Coaching Director of Next Gen Rugby Coaching from the commencement of the company in 2012/13.

Broady has a unique quality of engaging with young men and women of all ages (along with coaches) in the most positive and rewarding way to bring the best out of those in his care.

Since taking over the company in 2017, Broady has, with the assistance of an elite group of coaches, expanded the programs available to schools, clubs, coaches and players alike.

In order to continue the development of rugby at grassroots levels, Next Gen Rugby is an incredible rugby resource that coaches of all levels can and should take advantage of in terms of specific and targeted programs; training session organisation and planning; game management & game strategies; game reviews and player reviews; grading and selection processes.

As the originator of Next Gen Rugby Coaching, I am thrilled to see that it continues to inspire our next generation of boys and girls, and coaches.

Head Coach NSW Waratahs

Former Head Coach ACT Brumbies | Former Wallabies Assistant Coach

Next Gen Rugby Coaching has filled a real gap in our rugby community since 2012. They offer focused, high-quality coaching that connects schools, clubs, parents, players, and coaches. The coaches are experienced and elite, and their programs lift understanding, skill, and enjoyment of the game.

From the start, they showed true commitment to helping kids grow. They stepped in when it mattered and delivered results you can see on the field. Their mix of playing, coaching, and administration know-how makes the coaching practical and easy for schools and families to support.

I’ve known Michael Broad for over 20 years, and the continued growth of Next Gen doesn’t surprise me. Based on my own experience in playing, coaching, and administration, plus my background in school, provincial, and international rugby, Next Gen has built something lasting and impactful.

If you’re part of a school or club looking for a coaching partner who will support players, help coaches, and make rugby positive for families, Next Gen Rugby Coaching is the right choice.

- Matthew Taylor
Former Wallaby Assistant Coach | Former Scotland Assistant Coach | Former Qld Reds Assistant Coach

"I have had the privilege of working with Michael Broad through Next Gen Rugby Coaching and can strongly recommend him to any school or club. Michael’s background as a Junior Wallaby and premiership player with Wests Bulldogs, combined with over 50 years of coaching and teaching experience, gives him unique insight into the game.

He has been excellent in providing independent gradings for junior age groups; selection trials, and the critical confidence-in-contact sessions that add real value. Michael’s professionalism, passion, and ability to connect with players, coaches and administrators make him a tremendous asset to any rugby program."
